The school
achieved healthy School Status in November 2006 and we are
firmly committed to being a healthy school.
Within school we have established
a number of initiatives, for example we have a Healthy Tuck shop
on two days a week at which pupils can purchase a range of
snacks. We also distribute free fruit to all the school on two
other days a week.
More recently we have been
involved with Sutton and the TfL in producing a School Travel
Plan. The aim is to look at how, as a community, we use
transport and to encourage all our pupils and community to make
better use of sustainable transport systems such as bikes and
public transport. This is an exciting development and we will be
installing bike sheds, showers and supporting our school to
change the way we use transport. We have had a very enjoyable
cycling awareness programme for the children and staff which
will continue during the year.
Healthy Schools are not just
about diet though. We have also recently been revamping our
playground resources and are using our playtimes as an
opportunity for developing those important socialisation skills
that many of our pupils need support with.
Sports too are a key part of our
curriculum and we are part of the Surrey Special Schools'
network arranging a wide variety of sporting events that enable
our pupils to have a broad experience of sports including
canoeing, climbing, cross country and many others. We are also
very pleased to have a strong representation as a part of the
Sutton Team's entry for the London Sports Forum.
