Our Curriculum
The curriculum offered at The Link is
centred around the needs and abilities of our pupils. Each pupil has an
individual learning plan in the core subjects of Maths and English which
is matched to their Statemented needs.
Clearly the National Curriculum is the
core plank of our teaching programmes and we offer the full curriculum
for our pupils which is taught by subject specialist teachers. The
curriculum is differentiated to take into account the differing needs
and learning styles of our pupils and we place an emphasis on a visually
rich curriculum using concrete, relevant tasks.
However, for our pupils, the wider
curriculum, the development of self-esteem, independence, respect,
citizenship and above all the development of communication skills is
central to our work as a school.
The contribution made by our Speech and
Language Therapists in supporting both the teachers and pupils in the
planning and delivery of the curriculum is an important characteristic
of our school. We also believe in the importance of a broad and balanced
curriculum and we have a strong tradition and commitment to the
expressive arts. We encourage visiting musicians, theatre visits and a
wide range of sporting opportunities for all our pupils.
The links to the curriculum areas to the
right of this page will give you further information regarding specific
subjects but you will find our pages on therapies and pastoral care
equally relevant. |
